1787 (7th year of the Tenmei era). It all began when the first Omi merchant “Oka Chuube” transported copper from the Ashio Copper Mine to Edo, where in the Omama and Joshu area, which had prospered as a strategic point along the highway, he set up a shoyu brewing business under the name “Kawachiya”. Long after, in 1919 (Taisho 8th year), in ‘Haramachida’, Machida-machi, Minamitama District’ (today’s east side of Machida Station), which prospered as a stopping point on the Silk Road for those transporting raw silk from areas such as Nagano, Gunma and Hachioji, a factory was established. In 1970 (45th year of the Showa era), all production was integrated into the Omama factory. In 1994 (Heisei 6th year), the head office was moved to Asahi-cho in Machida City, where it operates to the present day.
